Living in Madeira Beach
Madeira Beach is its own city on a barrier island between the Gulf of Mexico and Boca Ciega Bay, with Redington Beach to the northwest and Treasure Island across John's Pass. The Tom Stuart Causeway connects it to the mainland, and downtown St. Pete is about 12 to 14 miles east.
The first homes came after a 1926 causeway, the town incorporated in 1947, and dredging in the 1950s and 60s added waterfront land. Most of the island is within a few blocks of Gulf beach access.
Madeira Beach took heavy damage from Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024, and many lots are being rebuilt. As a barrier island, much of it is in FEMA high-risk coastal flood zones, so new homes are built elevated to current code.
